rotblock Terms of Use

These terms apply to the rotblock app ("the app") provided by WMB GmbH, Beethovengasse 4-6/2/7, 2500 Baden, Austria, company register number FN 659861i (Landesgericht Wiener Neustadt), VAT ID ATU82399879, managing director Murat Bock, email me@muratbock.com, phone +43 660 4041942 ("we", "us"). They are also published at https://rotblock.org/terms. How we handle personal data is described in our privacy policy at https://rotblock.org/privacy.

The app is distributed through Apple's App Store. Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (standard EULA, https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/) applies to your use of the app. These terms add to it. If they conflict, the standard EULA prevails for the license itself, and these terms prevail for the content of our service.

1. What rotblock does

rotblock lets you lock apps and websites you choose using Apple's Screen Time. To open a locked app you solve a learning challenge, wait out a timer, or both, depending on your rules. The app also offers learning games, a mascot that evolves with your progress, an IQ estimate, schedules, reminders, widgets, friends and multiplayer features, and an optional AI Tutor.

rotblock is a self-help tool. It relies on Apple's Screen Time, which you control: you can remove locks in the app, revoke Screen Time access in iOS Settings or delete the app at any time. We do not guarantee that locks cannot be bypassed, that they work on every iOS version, or that the app reduces your screen time.

2. No medical or psychological advice; IQ estimate

• The IQ test in the app produces an estimate for tracking your own progress over time. It is not a clinical, diagnostic or standardized IQ assessment and must not be used for educational, employment, medical or legal decisions.
• The breathing exercise in the priming routine involves rapid, forceful breathing. Do not do it if you are pregnant, have heart or lung conditions, high blood pressure or epilepsy, or if you feel dizzy. Stop immediately if you feel unwell, and never do it while driving, in water or in any situation where fainting could be dangerous.
• The app does not provide medical, psychological or therapeutic advice and does not treat any condition, including problematic phone use or addiction. If you need help, contact a qualified professional.

3. Free version and rotblock Pro

The free version includes app and website blocking, math, flashcard and reading challenges, one custom flashcard deck plus the starter decks, and the first IQ test. rotblock Pro adds all other challenge types, unlimited decks, schedules, priming, IQ retests, and friends and multiplayer features. The exact features are described in the app and the App Store listing and may change over time.

Subscription terms

• rotblock Pro is an auto-renewing subscription sold by Apple: yearly (€99 per year) or monthly (€29 per month). Prices in other countries and currencies are set in the App Store. The price shown at purchase applies.
• New subscribers can get a 7-day free trial of either plan (once per Apple Account). Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the subscription starts and the price is charged to your Apple Account.
• The app may show a one-time offer for the yearly plan: €69 for the first year, paid up front, then €99 per year. It is shown once and is available only to eligible Apple Accounts.
• The subscription renews automatically for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged within 24 hours before renewal.
• You manage and cancel subscriptions in your Apple Account settings (Settings, your name, Subscriptions). Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
• Payment, billing, refunds and your statutory right of withdrawal for digital content are handled by Apple under Apple's Media Services Terms. Refund requests go to Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com).

4. AI Tutor

• The AI Tutor is a one-time in-app purchase (€29). It requires an active rotblock Pro subscription and an account. While you have no active Pro subscription, the AI Tutor cannot be used. Buying it does not include Pro.
• You type a topic and the AI Tutor writes a course in up to three tiers. The next tier is written after you master the current one and at least 60 minutes after it was made. Writing a course takes several minutes.
• Courses are generated by artificial intelligence (OpenAI and Google). They may contain mistakes and are not professional, medical, legal or financial advice. Check important facts with reliable sources. Use the "Report" button for wrong or harmful content.
• Harmful topics are refused, for example weapons, drugs, self-harm, sexual content, hate, crime techniques or topics that target a private person. Do not enter personal data as a topic.
• To keep costs fair, we may limit how often new courses and tiers can be generated, and generation may be temporarily unavailable. Courses you already have stay available in the app.
• A purchase can be linked to one rotblock account only.

5. Brain Shop, gift packs and virtual items

• Some mascot looks are earned in the app (milestones, gift packs, redeem codes). Others can be bought in the Brain Shop as one-time in-app purchases sold by Apple. Purchased items stay linked to your Apple Account and can be restored with "Restore Purchases".
• Virtual items have no monetary value outside the app, cannot be exchanged for money and cannot be sold. With the friends features, items you earned for free can be swapped with friends. Items you bought cannot be traded.
• Redeem codes are free promotional codes. They cannot be sold or exchanged for money, and each campaign can be redeemed once per account.
• Items may change or be rebalanced over time. Items you bought remain yours.

6. Optional account, friends and multiplayer

• You can sign in with Apple to back up your progress, open gift packs, redeem codes and use the AI Tutor. Friends, leaderboards, trades, duels and streak buddies also require rotblock Pro. An account is optional.
• Your username (or display name), XP, brain level and the items your brain wears are visible to other signed-in users. Friends also see your streak and games played.
• Pick a username that is not offensive, misleading or impersonating someone. Be respectful to other users. Do not try to manipulate leaderboards, trades or duels (for example by modifying the app or sending forged requests). We may change usernames, remove entries, reverse results or suspend accounts that break these rules. You can block and report other users in the app.
• You can delete your account in the app at any time (Blocks tab, Account, Delete account).
• We may suspend or end the online features (backup, leaderboards, multiplayer, downloads) with reasonable notice. The app's core features work without them. We will not end the AI Tutor or Pro online features during a period you have already paid for without an appropriate remedy.

7. Your content

Custom flashcard decks, AI Tutor topics and texts you enter remain yours. You grant us only the rights needed to store and process them to provide the service: on your device, and if you use the cloud backup or the AI Tutor, on our server and with our AI providers. Do not add content that is illegal or infringes others' rights.

8. Acceptable use

Do not reverse engineer, decompile or modify the app except as permitted by law, interfere with our servers, use the app in a way that breaks the law, or harass other users.

9. Availability and changes

We develop the app continuously and may change, add or remove features. We will not remove core paid features during a subscription period you have already paid for without an appropriate remedy. We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced in the app, and continued use after the effective date means you accept them. If you do not agree, you can stop using the app and cancel your subscription.

10. Liability

• We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and under mandatory product liability law.
• For slight negligence we are liable only for breach of essential contractual obligations and limited to the typical, foreseeable damage. Otherwise, liability for slight negligence is excluded to the extent permitted by law.
• We are not liable for consequences of locks working or not working as you expected (for example missed messages or calls in a locked app), as you control which apps are locked and can remove locks at any time.
• Your statutory warranty rights as a consumer remain unaffected.

11. Governing law and disputes

Austrian law applies, excluding its conflict-of-law rules and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer protection laws of the country where you habitually reside. Consumers may bring proceedings in the courts of their place of residence or our registered office. We are neither obliged nor willing to take part in dispute resolution before a consumer arbitration board.
